Case Study | IPTV System at the International Academic Exchange Center, Xiamen University Malaysia

Apr 20, 2026

As global higher education continues to deepen cooperation, the International Academic Exchange Center at Xiamen University Malaysia (hereinafter referred to as the “Exchange Center”), serving as a key initiative in China’s “going global” strategy for higher education, is steadily expanding its international influence. Leveraging Xiamen University’s international educational resources, the Exchange Center regularly hosts international academic conferences, cross-cultural forums, and collaborative research projects. Equipped with modern conference facilities and multifunctional academic spaces, it provides an efficient platform for interaction among scholars and students from both China and abroad, thereby promoting multicultural integration.

As a vital educational bridge connecting China and Southeast Asia, the Exchange Center continues to fulfill its important mission of fostering talent and promoting academic collaboration within the context of the Belt and Road Initiative.

It is not only an academic platform, but also an “international living space

As a key facility supporting international conferences, visiting scholars, and exchange students, the Exchange Center not only serves as a hub for academic exchange but also functions as a boutique hotel:

Approximately 131 high-standard guest rooms; a total floor area of approximately 10,000 square meters; a facility that integrates conference services, accommodation, and cultural exchange

For this project, Huiwei developed a customized IPTV system solution for the Exchange Center. Rather than simply installing a TV system, we designed the solution so that every screen serves as a link connecting academic exchange and cultural dissemination.

It is not only an information portal, but also a “service gateway”

The IPTV system at the Exchange Center is no longer just a “television system”; rather, it serves as an “information and service portal” that connects the university with guests in their rooms.

1 From the very first moment you turn it on

An International Hospitality Experience

Designed for international scholars and exchange students, this project’s IPTV system supports switching between Chinese and English interfaces (with the option to add more languages) and displays this feature prominently on the TV’s startup screen. All displayed content can be updated in real time via the backend, enabling customized services for specific events and demonstrating the university’s commitment to welcoming and caring for its visitors.

Custom welcome screen (featuring the conference name and university branding); visitor information (conference schedule and event guidelines); campus and center overview

Room 2 serves as the “second venue”

Direct Access to Academic Information

Unlike traditional hotel TVs, which offer only entertainment content, this project’s IPTV system is deeply integrated with an information dissemination system, supporting the delivery of diverse content tailored to academic settings.

Real-time conference schedule; notifications about academic events; venue navigation and directions; campus news and research achievements

3. Creating a Warm and Inviting Space

Expressions of Cultural Integration

Drawing on the cultural heritage of Xiamen University and the regional characteristics of Malaysia, the program’s content is designed to integrate diverse cultures, showcasing the unique charm of the exchange center.

Presentation of the school’s history and culture; Special feature on Chinese and Malaysian cultures; Campus scenery and cultural imagery; Customized UI visual style (blending Chinese and tropical elements)
